1977 CB VAN
The CB Van was only made for one year. It was also the only toy in the line to actually talk! The van featured a voice box that ran on one AA battery, and played one of six  phrases when the button on top of the voice box was pushed. The recordings were actually recorded by Evel himself! The CB Van came with a detachable motorcycle carrier and jump ramp. The driver and side gull wing doors opened, and there was even a secret compartment that opened up under Evel's bed! Some CB Vans had blue side pipes, while others had chrome.

FUN FACT
Ideal planned on using the CB Van mold for two other toy lines(Kids From C.A.P.E.R. & Monster Squad). However, these toys were never produced.

1975-77 TRAIL BIKE
The Trail Bike was introduced in 1975. With the exception of the Chopper, it was the only gyro powered toy in the EK line not to come with an energizer or figure. In 1976, the Trail Bike set was updated with a larger box, and now included a figure, energizer and 4 pylons.
1977 SILVER HI-JUMPER
The Silver Hi-Jumper was only made in 1977. It was essentially a different color Trail Bike. A red jump ramp was also included with the set. It's estimate that around 1500 units were produced, making it one of the rarest EK sets.

1973-77 SCRAMBLE VAN
The Scramble Van was release in 1973. It came with an array of accessories. The smaller accessories were red, and the larger accessories were brown. One way to note you have an early production Scramble Van, is if the red color on the vinyl appears to be more of a pink color. Soon after the initial release, Ideal did a slight update of the set. The original structure of the van was made up of two plastic pieces glued together. The roof mold now had shorter stems, and the two pieces were joined with a red coupler in the middle. The color of the larger accessories were changed to blue, and the red color was improved on the vinyl sides. There were two updates to the Scramble Van set in 1974. The horns on the cab roof were now gone! Most likely due to production issues, or the easily broken off horns posing a choking hazard in smaller children. The red couplers were also changed to black. There were only two updates to the Scramble Van for 1975-77. The missing horns on the cab roof were back! But now they were molded in to the roof. The red steering wheel was also updated, and now black.

FUN FACT
The molds from the Scramble Van would later be used by Ideal to create the Alvin & The Chipmunks Tour Bus and JJ Armes Mobile Investigation Unit.

1975-77 FAST TRACKER
The Fast Tracker never appeared in any Ideal catalogs. Its history is somewhat of a mystery, but here is what is known. It was released in 1975, and appeared in that years Sears Christmas catalog. It was also released that same year as the Wheelie Car in the Derry Daring line with a few minor changes to the graphics. The Wheelie Car did however, appear in the Ideal catalogs. Another interesting thing to note is the back of the Fast Tracker box. It was the only toy in the line to have "TO: _____" printed on the back(like a gift tag). It was also the only set to never have a glossy graphic applied to the front of the box, or to come in the newer full color style box. In both toy lines it was originally released as a white car with a blue interior. Somewhere along the line, Ideal reversed the colors. In 1976 the Derry Daring line was discontinued and nothing was ever seen of the Wheelie Car or Fast Tracker. I believe the Fast Tracker to have been originally designed as a Derry Daring toy in 1975, and used as a Sears exclusive in the EK line. This is mearly speculation though.

EVEL KNIEVEL TOYS 1973-77
In this exhibit, we'll explore the USA Evel Knievel toys from 1973-77. The EK line was introduced in 1973, and was abruptly canceled in 1977. After Evel assaulted the author of a book written about him, Ideal thought it was in their best interest to cancel their contract with Evel. Ideal had just started production of their new toys for 1977, at the time the EK line was canceled. This made the toys produced in 1977, some of the rarest and most sought after pieces. The EK line did continue in part in some foreign markets for a few more years. The Team America line would ultimately replace the EK line in the USA, but within in a couple of years it too would be cancelled. Not every toy had a real life counterpart, but many did. With the exception of the Scramble Van, and Stunt Cycle, most toys were created before their real life counterpart was. The sign hanging above the display case above, used to hang from the ceiling of stores that sold the EK toys. Click on the sign above, or any picture to view a larger image.
